Workshop Description

Bluey-conomics: Using a Children’s TV Show to Teach What Matters

The popular kid’s show Bluey has lots of realistic and heartwarming family moments. But did you know is also has lots of economics? This session shows teachers how to connect with students (and even parents!) using Bluey episodes, how to teach economic and personal finance concepts with them, and lesson plans that teachers can use over and over again.

Bluey is a kids’ show about a family of cartoon dogs. Each seven-minute episode shows simple, believable family dilemmas. It’s been described as a show for adults disguised as a kids’ show, and it’s taken the world by storm, having been streamed hundreds of millions of times since its release in 2018.

Bluey has lots of realistic and heartwarming family moments. But did you know is also has lots of economics? This session shows teachers how to connect with students (and even parents!) using Bluey episodes, how to teach economic and personal finance concepts with them, and lesson plans that teachers can use over and over again. Bluey shows both “market” and “non-market” choices. Some things in economics aren’t for sale.
