Stephen visited The Academy at Virginia Randolph, which is an alternative school. The teacher of the classes Stephen visited (TaWana Wood) is a new SMG teacher and a graduate of last year’s in-person Personal Finance Institute. She is also the recipient of a Meta grant promoting the SMG in Title 1 schools. This visit fulfilled two goals: it is part of Stephen’s initiative to re-grow SMG participation, and to fulfill the requirements of the Meta grant. Teachers new to the SMG often neglect to have their teams trade, which kicks them out of the game. Stephen visited two classes and made sure that the students traded. However, there was a fight as soon as Stephen arrived, and about half of the first period students got kicked out of class, thus reducing the numbers.
