Environmental issues are often perplexing. The good news is that economic thinking – focusing as it does on decision-making – can provide insight into how to better consider how governments, businesses, and household think about the environment.

In this session we will explore the potential costs and benefits of plans to build a new nuclear power plant in Southwest Virginia, and the criteria that policy makers and firms might consider when determining the criteria they use to evaluate their alternatives.  We will also study strategies that government and business leaders deploy to reduce externalities so the risks to individuals and households are mitigated.

Attendees will get access to a collection of lessons that are aligned with both economics and science standards that give insight into human decision-making processes that affect the environment, and best practices for using current events in your community to successfully teach hot topics while maintaining civil discourse.

The price is free! Attendees get 2 contact hours for purposes of recertification. Teachers also get lots of lesson plans and online resources to help bring learning to life both inside and outside the classroom.

Fee: NO CHARGE
