VCU Center for Economic Education to be honored with Prestigious National Award

Virginia Commonwealth University Center for Economic Education, led by Dr. Stephen Day, has been selected to receive the 2019 Albert Beekhuis Award from the Council for Economic Education (CEE).

The award, with an honorarium of $500, is made possible by a gift from the Albert Beekhuis Foundation to the Council for Economic Education.

This award recognizes an affiliated Center for Economic Education for outstanding performance in working with teachers and exhibiting excellence in the delivery of high-quality programs and outreach to its community.

Kevin Gochet, CEE’s Director of Programs, stated:

“Dr. Albert Beekhuis was a lifelong believer in the value and importance of economic literacy and a longstanding supporter of the mission of the Council for Economic Education.

The programs offered by the Virginia Commonwealth University Center, and the commitment to driving forward the mission of providing the best and most effective economic and financial education to teachers, students and the community at large, make your Center deserving of this award.”

The award will be presented to Dr. Day at CEE’s 58th Annual Financial Literacy and Economic Education Conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 3rd.

The VCU Center for Economic Education is part of the Virginia Council on Economic Education’s statewide network of university-based centers.
